Information Systems and Data Science
1.Introduction
Established in 2024, the Department of Information Systems and Data Science at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) evolved from the former Department of Management Science and Engineering. As of November 2026, the department has 19 full-time faculty members, comprising five professors (all doctoral supervisors), eight associate professors. Faculty honors include one NSFC Distinguished Young Scholar, one national leading talent, two New Century Excellent Talents, and one Cultural Master under the “Four Batches” program.
The Department offers doctoral and master’s degree programs in Management Science and Engineering, as well as an undergraduate program in Big Data Management and Application. It’s research focuses on three areas: information management and information systems, data science and intelligent decision-making, and big data analytics and applications. The department aims to cultivate interdisciplinary professionals skilled in applying information technology and intelligent algorithms to address business and management challenges.
Over the past five years, faculty members have led 12 national-level research projects, including NSFC Distinguished Young Scholars, General, and Youth projects, and have provided decision-making consulting to major state-owned enterprises such as State Grid, MCC Group, Baowu Steel Group, HBIS Group, Baotou Iron and Steel Group, and Nanjing Iron and Steel Group. Research has appeared in leading journals, including Information Systems Research, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Management Information Systems, Tourism Management, Journal of Management Sciences in China, and Chinese Journal of Management Science. Graduates are prepared for careers in government agencies, large state-owned enterprises, high-tech firms, and other organizations, with expertise in big data analytics, business intelligence, information systems development, intelligent decision-making, and digital transformation management.
