From August 13 to 16, the summer study tour of the Entrepreneurs Chapter of the Alumni Association of the School of Economics and Management (SEM) was held in Shizuishan City, Ningxia. The event was co-hosted with the USTB Ningxia Alumni Association. Taking the Shizuishan Advanced Materials Pilot Test Base, jointly built by USTB alumni, as a key platform, the event fully leveraged the bond among alumni to promote the precise matching of the university’s frontier technologies with local industries.
Sun Jinghong, Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee; Quan Liangzhu, former Deputy Secretary of the University Party Committee; Wang Weicai and He Minqing, former Vice Presidents of the university; leaders and experts from the School of Metallurgy, the School of Materials, the School of Carbon Neutrality, the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Institute for Achievement Transformation of Science and Technology, and the USTB Alumni Association; as well as alumni from across the country and representatives of local government departments and enterprises—more than 80 people in total—attended the event.
On August 14, the university leaders and the alumni delegation visited, in succession, the Dawukou District Industrial Heritage Park, China Nonferrous (Ningxia) Orient Group Co., Ltd., the Shizuishan Advanced Materials Pilot Test Base, and several alumni-founded enterprises for on-site research. They gained an all-round understanding of Shizuishan’s industrial heritage, industrial layout and innovation platform development, and held in-depth exchanges with local enterprises.

On August 15, the main forum themed “Talent Gathers in Shizuishan, Intelligence Creates a New Future” was held at the Helantis Hotel. On behalf of the university, Sun Jinghong delivered an address, noting that the deep bond between USTB and Shizuishan began with generations of USTB alumni who put down roots in northwest China—from Academician He Jilin, who devoted himself to the rare metals industry, to the large numbers of alumni who founded enterprises and jointly built pilot test platforms, alumni have always been the steadiest and most vibrant bond in university–region cooperation. The university will continue to rely on the physical platforms built by alumni, establish a regular communication mechanism, promote more technologies and talent to settle in Shizuishan, and turn the innovation potential of universities into the development momentum of the region.

At the event, the Beijing University of Science and Technology (Shizuishan) Technology Transfer Sub-center was unveiled, marking the formal establishment of a regular platform for university–region achievement transformation and talent exchange. Six cooperation projects were signed in a batch on the spot, including three new-materials pilot test R&D projects and three industrialization projects. A list of 80 supply-and-demand items was also released, comprising 40 frontier scientific and technological achievements from the university and 40 technical needs from Shizuishan enterprises, covering metal materials, energy storage materials, resource utilization and many other fields.
